10 Volt Shock "S/T" 7"

Layers of noise flesh out the trebly bass and drums bones of this newish Hamburg, Germany noise-hardcore band- while the throaty, semi-distorted screams and harmonic feedback from KURT vocalist/guitarist Frank adds the epidermis. So sure, this sounds a bit like KURT—its brutality hits like a hammer instead of a midnight intruder, though. 3-songs are featured here, and a nice DJ die-cut sleeve with stenciled, spray-painted cover too. (XM-066-7)

Drop Dead "S/T" LP

Recorded onto 16-track tape during a 1998 tour of Germany, this features this vet Rhode Island hardcore band absolutely destroying 25-tracks. The sound on this is clear, raw, and wicked. Fans of GAUZE will absolutely shit—this is the densest of sound walls, complete with a maniac to scream at it. Great fold-over cover, screen-printed in black ink on black matte card stock, and imported for Germany.  Pressed on heavy, black vinyl. (Red-C / Armageddon)

Eniac "Superfriends/Ken & Barbie" 7"

Finally, a follow-up release to their brilliant "Au Revoir Tristesse" LP; 2 new songs from this tightly wound Hamburg band. The A-side takes off with speed sounding like an updated DRIVE LIKE JEHU. This combines some really interesting elements of tangle and interplay, but still drops the pressure in a "rock" sense. The B-side boils down the tension to a beat reminiscent of futuristic rockabilly. This allows the band to froth and seeth into a keyboard steeled crescendo that's really great. Comes in a hot hand-screened cover. German import. MP3'S available at www.e-n-i-a-c.de (XM074-7)

Eniac “Oh?” LP

8 new songs of energy-coated noise-rock with hooks from this Hamburg band; lengthened studio-time has enabled this band to zoom past their previous efforts, crafting a sound akin to THE LAUGHING HYENAS meets LES SAVY FAV.  Is that possible? We encourage our dear friends to come and find out. Recommended to the max! German import with a great cover, etc. (X-MIST / NOVA)

Kurt "La Guard" LP

3rd album from this German band. The sound of this record takes the band a bit away from the noisy, BORN AGAINST-ish hardcore of their first two LP's, and twords a more developed, original sound. The interplay between the totally sick, rackety basslines and torn-out guitars is absolutely devastating. Do yourselves a favor and get this, as it's about the best thing released last year. Kurt "Schesaplana Plus" 2XLP

Here's a chance to get the first 2 KURT LP'S in one package! The vinyl versions of these have been sold out for quite some time, but they're back now, pressed from the original plates, and done up nice like for everyone to enjoy. Never heard of KURT? Neither had we, until we opened up an X-Mist package a month ago and heard their 3rd LP, La Guard. Now, we are officially rabid supporters of this band, who though popular in Germany, haven't caught on in the United States...yet. This band is the serious business-- their sound has that post-punk X-Mist quality, with a healthy dose of later BORN AGAINST. Yes! (XM053/057-1)

The Lowdown "Y Is A Crooked Letter" CD

The follow up to Revolver II will victimize you with unstable psychedelic breakdowns and beats of chopped rhythm. Recorded by this Santa Cruz-based band themselves in 2002, and tinkered with in post by Jamie Stewert of XIU XIU, this nods heavily to SUN CITY GIRLS, BEEFHEART, SCISSOR GIRLS, HALF JAPANESE, but not EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL. All this influence, now with more dance headache. (ZUM015-2)

Most Secret Method "Our Success" LP

Originally released as a CD-only on the Dischord affiliated Superbad Records, this X-Mist distributed version is on vinyl, courtesy of Christopher's Records. Former BEAUTY PILLS member leads this to-the-max D.C. band. Adding some of the reggae and mod-inspired sounds of their hometown, the chiming, clean guitar-work drives this LP. (CR07-1)

New Wet Kojak "Do Things" LP

Previously released on CD-only by Beggars Banquet this, what is NWK’S 3rd full-length, finally sees the light-of-day on vinyl. This band also has done a release for Touch & Go, and it is highly recommended if you’re a fan of that label. Featuring members of BOYS AGAINST GIRLS, NEW WET KOJAKS’ laid-back tension and quiet to loud volume sound, complete with build-ups of secret agent sax lines, rocking drums, and layers of fuzzy guitars, has been called “lounge-rock”. Don’t be scared off by that description—embrace it! Hand-screened, multi-colored Derek Hess artwork, too!  This is a German import, and is pressed on heavy, black vinyl. No Doctors “Hunting Season” CD

When I heard the first NO DOCTORS LP I thought to myself, “This is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard.”  Then I listened to this new full-length—THIS is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard. MUDHONEY on PCP brain damage, ROYAL TRUX headspace and BLUE CHEER freak-outs make this electric blues record more akin to the sound of Stevie Ray Von’s crashing helicopter than of SRV’s Strat-wanking fuck-face fests. Oliver Twist "New Tricks & Traps" LP

Their 3rd album, and these 9 new tracks are superior anything they've recorded before. Musically, there are similarities to ROBOCOP KRAUS, and their non-predictable approach will delight fans of THE BIG BOYS, but it doesn't stop there. Sure they have some No Wave elements, but they shuffle the beats to the tune of LES SAVY FAV or LIFTER PULLER, not electroclash or anything like that. The perfect dance to do to this record would be to volunteer to be drawn and quartered-- this record pulls in any and all directions simultaneously. (XM-072)

V/A "Majestic Dog, Vol. 1" 7"

This is for fans of the stranger side of hardcore. THE FLESHIES turn in a track; these Oakland wiseasses, led by the infamous John Geek, blend politics together with an odd sense of humor and driving, rock oriented punk/hardcore. Also check out PCP ROADBLOCK. This insane Richmond/Washington DC noisy hardcore outfit once played a show in California on acid that has been described in MRR as "the worst show ever". But if you like your SOCKEYE crossed with an incarnation of both speedy and experimental BLACK FLAG, don't miss their track "You Are U.S. Marine" about McDonald's characters run wild and a monkey-chasing drill sergeant. KOJAK play noisy Easter music and are from Portugal (Is this true?). HORTUS is another Richmond-based band that's noisy and upsetting. Comes on nice, heavy puke yellow vinyl. (WT-003-7)
