In case you missed the catch-up version of Presents Princess released in March, Battleship has been tearing up the Bay Area - and now the world - since 2003. I got in trouble for Black Flag and Birthday Party comparisons last time; nevertheless, it’s hard to pin down the intense, angular anger these guys bring to the floor. Bean’s bursting bass and the pounding percussions of their new drummer Drew Eastman create the rumbling foundation that propels this ship to near instability every time Daniel’s jagged guitar lines pierce through the chaos like razors to flesh. Lead animal Aleks is perpetually one step away from shredded vocal cords and dance floors with lyrics about implosive pressure, suburbia, and metronomes. Recorded again in Oakland by Greg Ashley (GrisGris) and mastered by Weasel Walter (Flying Luttenbachers), except this time a few guest appear- ances bring sax and keys to the mix.
