Bar Feeders "Pour
for four, Por Favor!" CD
The Bar Feeders have that speed/HXC/punk sound similar to Black Fork.
There's lotsa heated guitars and nutty screaming locked inside these kooks.
The vocals are so hurried that it's difficult to keep up, but that's good.
These boys have a Vandals sense of humor and love their alcohol. So buy
'em a beer and check 'em out if your into goofy punk rock. (JD)
(Fast Music 401 Broadway #2011 NY, NY 10013)
Boris the Sprinkler "Group Sex" CD
This is Boris the Sprinkler’s second cover album, I hope. If you’re
wondering what they did to these classic Circle Jerks songs don’t
be alarmed. The covers are pretty damn close to the originals. Which leaves
me speculating why they even bothered to release this record! It’s
not like the fuckin’ original is out of print or anything! Whatever,
I guess if you’re a colossal Boris fan, or a major geek, you’ll
want this CD. (JD)
(Bulge Records PO Box 1173 Green Bay, WI 54305)
Bulemics "Old Enough to Know Better..." CD
This CD is better than some of their other shit, and I use that term loosely.
The Bulemics are the usual loud, prolix punk 'n' roll. It's a little below
my standards, none of their songs stand out in my mind. This record isn't
piteous, the vocals are basically carrying this band with snotty and throaty
presence. Fans will appreciate it. (JD)
(Junk Records PO Box 1474 Cypress, CA 90630)
Cheetah Crome Motherfuckers "S/T" 7"
I thought this 7" would be awesome with a name like Cheetah Crome
Motherfuckers. Alas, I was misled. This record was recorded on Mono, which
may be cheaper but its effects on the sound quality are insufferable.
Is that a drum beat or a scratch on the record? And if anyone could even
hear a guitar strum with all that static I’d give him this record.
Noise-core, that’s all I can say. And if you know what’s good
for you, you’d stay away. (JD)
(Cessofonya Records)
Deadly Nightshade "S/T" 7"
Yeah,
lofi 60's garage... Nothing but drums, bass, guitars, and an organ for
your trashy joyance. This record is mostly an instrumental, with
the exception of "Suzi Q." The songs are worthy of your rock
'n' roll collection because these guys are fairly young and yet they have
exquisite taste. It's a slow groove ma' man. (JD)
(Zodiac 88 Cooledge Dr. Brewster, NY 10509)
Evolutions "S/T" 7"
If only I could hook this 45 up to my alarm clock, maybe then I could
get to work on time. The Evolutions are raw noise and primal sounds! If
I could get past the tape hiss I’d probably listen to this a lot,
but it’s much too crude for me. Four songs, can you handle it? (JD)
(Kryptonite Records 827 Lincoln Blvd. Manitowoc, WI 54220)
Geriatrix "Switch Blade" 7"
Damn,
these guys play some fuckin’ ecstatic rock ‘n’ roll!
Matt the Jungle Cat, Jimmy Pervert, Adam Bomb, The Bronze, and Skeeter
get it on with heavy punk ‘n’ roll that is comparable to a
cragged Humpers! This cantankerous lot will attract your primal spirit
with crude guitar licks and carnal gestures. There’re three songs
to rock out to, so get busy all you bummer bitches! Yet another fine record
from Mr. Perkins. If you haven’t noticed his outstanding record
label, fucking get a clue! He is the future of punk rock! (JD)
(Tom Perkins Records PO Box 970936 Ypsilanti, MI 45242)
Government Issue "Complete History Vol. 1" 2XCD
Vol. 1?! Fuck man, there's like 80 fuckin' tracks here! Well anyway, this
is some raw fuckin' HXC punk rock outta D.C. in the early 80's. The songs
are fast as fuck, each about a minute long. This CD contains Gov. Issue's
EPs, LPs, and live shows, all on two convenient compact discs. If you're
fuckin' into all the speedy early HXC punk from LA you will be liking
this band. (JD)
(Dr. Strange Records PO Box 7000-117 Altaloma, CA 91701)
Groovie Ghoulies "Travels With My Amp" CD/LP
Ah the Groovie Ghoulies, you'll never meet a sweeter band. Like every
Ghoulie album, you find catchy pop punk with a prominent Ramones influence.
What separates this band from the pack is Kepi's gift for writing incredibly
infectious pop numbers that'll put a smile on your face. There is a total
of 14 tracks on this CD including such hits as, "Bye Bye Brain",
"(The Girl is) An Unsolved Mystery", and probably my favorite
Ghoulieize cover to date, Jonathan Richman's "Dancing Late At Night".
(JD)
(Lookout! Records PO Box 11374 Berkeley, CA 94712-2374)
Hellbenders "Pop Rock Suicide" CD/LP
Hell Yeah! If you haven't heard The Hellbenders fuckin' get with man!
They are rapidly becoming one of the foremost new punk 'n' roll bands
of the millenium. These fuckers are an unrelenting rock 'n' roll orgasm
exploding with dizzying guitar solos and deafening vocals! This is for
anyone who is a fan of loud punk rock like the Dead Boys, Humpers, Catheters,
list goes fucking on and on... (JD)
(Dead Beat Records PO Box 283 Los Angeles, CA 90078)
Iggy and The Stooges "Double Danger" 2XCD
Why
would somebody want to release Iggy's live shit? I mean the sound quality
is unbearable. Iggy is a visual person. You can't expect to get the same
feeling by listening to a shitty live recording. Get "Raw Power".
(JD)
(Bomp Records PO Box 7112 Burbank, CA 91510)
Kidnap "79-‘85" CD
Kidnap are an early punk rock band outta France, I believe. They give
a momentous shot of snotty, fuck you punk rock that is kind of a cross
between Discharge and Hubble Bubble. There’re 23 songs of nasty
rock ‘n’ roll for the kids. (JD)
(Upstart Productions 65A W. Madison Ave. #254 Dumont, NJ 07628)
Last Sons of Krypton/The Creatures 7"
Final Recordings! Nooooooo, say it ain’t so Captain Kwik Trip! The
Last Sons were an unbelievable garage punk rock band. They’re an
uncivilized, impudent rock ‘n’ roll band that gave a jolt
into a dying garage scene. The Creatures are Pre-Last Sons and just as
naughty. There’re 6 songs on this essential garage punk record including,
"I’m your trashman (yeah)" and "(I’m A3) Teenage
Zombie". (JD)
(Kryptonite Records 827 Lincoln Blvd. Manitowoc, WI 54220)
Loudmouths/Valentine Killers 7"
Rev up your hotrods cause this 45 is going into overdrive! The Loudmouths
are a CA punk ‘n’ roll band with a seriously rotten attitude
and vivacious tunes. The female vox are high energy and genuinely thrashy.
The Valentine Killers can easily be compared to the late, great NYC Stallions!
The VK’s music is wild rock ‘n’ roll caused by a large
excess of alcohol. These two bands bombard you with 2 fucked up songs
each! Yeah motherfuckers, it’s time to rock! (JD)
(Empty Records PO Box 12034 Seattle, WA 98102)
Migraines "Juvenilia" CD
More sloppy punk rock ala Vindictives courtesy of the Migraines. They're
experienced in snotty vocals, catchy chords, and bratty beats. The music
is pretty simplistic and humorous pop punk rocks. If you like that slap
happy punk you will want this CD. There're 15 tracks including, "I
wanna be a Ramone" and "Spanking Machine". (JD)
(One Foot Records PO Box 30666 Long Beach, CA 90853)
New Bomb Turks "Nightmare Scenario" CD/LP
Wow, I wasn’t expecting this to be anything remotely like their
older records but fuck! The Turks are back to seize your mind with more
kick ass guitar sounds and inebriated bellows that will make you scream!
Twelve rockers including, "Too Much" and "Turning Tricks".
The world may once again rock ‘n’ roll! (JD)
(Epitaph Records 2798 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026)
One Man Army "Last Word Spoken" CD
Here is the second album from these East Bay punk rockers. One Man Army
hasn’t changed their widely popular street punk sound since last
I heard them. Even though Billie Joe Armstrong, of Green Day, produced
this album, OMA still emit gritty vocals, catchy chords, and bouncy beats.
There’re 13 tracks including, "No Controlling", "Join
The Ranks", and "The Holiday". Street punk fans should
be looking for change in their couches right this second! (JD)
(Adeline Records 5337 College Ave. #318 Oakland, CA 94618)
Puffball "Swedish Nitro" 10"
Go! Motherfucker! Go! I'm lost in the 9th Cantos of Hades! Puffball are
loud, fast, and fucked up! Don't be turned off by their name, these boys
rock like Motorhead and ZEKE! Put it in overdrive cause this little 10"
is gonna scorch your ears! There're 7 rip-roaring tunes including, "Too
Mean To Die", "Matt Walker", and "Evil Come Evil Go".
Get it dipshit! (JD)
(Radio Blast Recordings PO Box 160308 40566 Dusseldorf, Germany)
Reducers SF "No Control" 7"
The Reducers SF, not the CT ones, are an awesome street punk band! They
sound like early Rancid by combining catchy heart felt songs with some
peculiarity. If you like the first Clash record or other TKO records,
you should most certainly give these chaps a listen. There’re two
songs here including, "Never Find Me". (JD)
(TKO Records 4104 24th St. #103 San Francisco, CA 94114)
Reducers SF "Backing the Long Shot" CD
I’m kind of reaching back here. This record came out, like, a year
ago, I think. Anyway, it’s too good not to be recognized. The Reducers
SF are one of the few street punk bands that I thoroughly enjoy. These
guys are a very proficient punk band who even backed up Cock Sparrer on
their first US tour. Now if they’re good enough for one of the best
punk bands in the world they’re good enough for you shits! Twelve
songs about working, good times, are drinking in the pubs. (JD)
(TKO Records 4104 24th St. #103 San Francisco, CA 94114)
Sixer "Busted Knuckles & Heartbreak" CDEP
This
is the CD version of Sixer’s recently released 7" on TKO. These
boys are the spitting image of Rancid. Raspy vocals and bouncy chords
are the norm in Sixer. If you into street punk or Rancid you should check
this band. There’re 5 tracks including, "Thin White Line"
and "Sugar Water". (JD)
(TKO Records 4104 24th St. #103 San Francisco, CA 94114)
Suburban Threat "American Punk" CD
I would probably like this CD more if they didn’t include a copy
of their dumb ass lyrics with it. Look at this shit, "a rare new
breed of american punk/ a daring clan but dammit we’re tough/ we’re
round and slim and short and tall/ we fight for one we fight for all."
The music is fuckin’ rad! It’s total Special Duties, G.B.H.
punk rock! Suburban Threat are fast and furious spewing out aggression.
But those lyrics… (JD)
(TKO Records 4104 24th St. #103 San Francisco, CA 94114)
Swingin’ Neckbreakers "The Return of Rock" CD/LP
Alright, a new Swingin’ Neckbreakers record! Like the title says,
this record is pretty rocking. If you can picture a cross between the
A-Bones and the Supersuckers you’d have it made in the shade buddy
boy. Rock ‘N’ Roll with some soul and catchy guitars makes
for one spectacular record. (JD)
(Telstar Records PO Box 1123 Hoboken, NJ 07030)
V/A "Bored Teenagers" CD
Hey, an above average Kill By Death type comp! Who woulda figured? This
CD contains 14 British punk bands out of '77-'82 like The Grout, Crime
(UK), The Committed, The Amazing Space Frogs, and more. The booklet has
alot of solid info about these scarce bands. These are decent UK punk
bands that you'll never find the original recordings of, so buy this CD
and quit your belly-aching melon-head! (JD)
(Bin Liner Records PO Box 18 Midhurst West Sussex GU29 9YU, England)
V/A "Runnin’ On Fumes" CD
Nothing really difficult to explain here, this is Gearhead Magazine’s
singles compilation. All of the 7" singles that Gearhead has released
in their zine are here like Supercharger, The Monomen, The Donnas, Mudhoney,
and tons more. These 7"s are out of print so you gotta come here
to get ‘em all. (JD)
(Gearhead Records PO Box 421219 San Francisco, CA 94142-1219)
V/A "The Sound of Modern America" 7"
Four bands and four songs of 60's garage and garage punk! Dementia 13
starts it off with a sweet little lofi ditty that could have been written
in '65. The Panic Buttons sound like they need to talk to Greg Lowery.
They have Rip Off Records potential written all over 'em. Bob City, I
dunno, sounds like Beck's folk shit. Going on last are the Hecklers. They
kick it up a notch with more solid garage punk rock. All the bands here
rock 'n' roll, so do yourself a favor and check them out or die! (JD)
(Zodiac 88 Cooledge Dr. Brewster, NY 10509)
VOM "Live at Surf City" 7"
Hey,
what archive did you guys dig this out of? Well, the sound quality is
pretty good for a Kryptonite release. VOM were straight outta the 70’s
and feature Angry Samoans members. Now you’ve probably come to the
conclusion that this is fucking good, so I won’t bore you with the
details. Buy it fucknose. There’re 4 songs including, "Electrocute
Your Cock" and "Too Animalistic". (JD)
(Kryptonite Records 827 Lincoln Blvd. Manitowoc, WI 54220)
